WHY LAKE MERRITT SCHOLARS?
Personalized Instruction
Every student learns differently. Lessons and strategies are adapted to the student's individual strengths, weaknesses, and learning style.
Deep Understanding of the Material
My engineering background and experience tutoring high school mathematics allow me to break down difficult concepts and approach problems from multiple perspectives.
One-on-One Attention
Every session is focused entirely on the student, allowing us to identify exactly where they need help and spend our time where it matters most.
ABOUT ME
I'm Preetham Sridhar, a professional SAT/ACT and high school math tutor based in Oakland, California. I graduated from UC San Diego with a degree in Structural Engineering in 2018. Since 2021, I have been a tutor with Varsity Tutors, and I am proudly a top 20% tutor on the platform. Over that time, I've worked with a variety of students preparing for standardized tests and challenging academic coursework.
My background in engineering gives me a strong foundation in mathematics and problem solving. It also allows me to quickly come up with examples and explain concepts in multiple ways when a student doesn't immediately connect with one approach.
I believe every student has a unique perspective when encountering a problem. Rather than forcing students into a single method, I pay attention to how they approach problems and fine-tune our strategies around what works best for them.
SAT/ACT PREP
These tests reward more than just knowledge of the material. Students need to understand how to approach different question types, manage their time, and develop strategies that work for the way they think.
My test preparation includes:
-
Personalized lessons based on the student's strengths and weaknesses
-
Targeted test-taking strategies
-
Practice with realistic practice questions
-
Detailed review of mistakes and problem-solving approaches
-
Strategies for improving speed and accuracy
-
Ongoing adjustment based on student progress
For Reading and Writing, I've spent significant time studying the available practice passages and questions, allowing me to help students recognize patterns in how the test is constructed and develop effective approaches to different question types.
For Math, my engineering background allows me to approach problems from multiple angles and explain concepts in ways that make sense to the individual student.
The goal isn't to give every student the same strategy. It's to find the strategy that works best for them. Whether your goal is to break 1200, hit 1400+, or perfect your score, I can help you get there.
